Americans I know here have told me that for the first time, they don't dread the question of nationality that inevitably comes up when speaking with strangers. Egyptians (and other Middle Easterners, from what I hear) make generally positive comments about Obama, despite Al Qaeda's appalling comments (Ayman al - Zawahiri, the second in command of Al Qaeda, is Egyptian). People here aren't over-idealizing what Obama's administration will mean to them (after all, America's poor foreign policy in the Middle East wasn't the sole result of George W., and it certainly can't be reversed or erased anytime soon) but they do express a sense of hope about the United States, and regardless of what you feel about Obama, that has to mean something.
